Yeah, They're Racists - But Funny Racists, Really

We don't take racism as a joke - we know what it actually feels like, we know what it looks like and we know its devastating historical impact upon individuals and our great country.

But as American racism has gone from the shadows to the brightly lit cable TV studio, we have to wonder if it is now becoming more farcical than menacing.

Are the people on air spewing hate so over the line that they've gone from Joseph Goebbels to Joe the Birthday Clown?

It's Friday, You've GOT to Laugh at Health Care

Yeah, the fight for health care reform is more depressing than edifying.

The cross claims of doom are tiresome - and not meant to elucidate what is a real, huge crisis that adversely impacts millions of people every year and undermines the economic future of our country.  The narrative is one of fear on both sides.

But today is Friday - so let's have a little laugh about health care, thanks to Stephen Colbert:

Sotomayor "Racists" Claim Punctured by Colbert

The first claims that Judge Sonia Sotomayor was a racists were laughable. 

No proof offered except that she was, well, not a white male.

But when an avalanche of coordinated attacks claiming that she was a "reverse racists" hit across all media, you had to wonder about the sanity of the opposition to her nomination - and the angry white guys who seem unable to come to terms with an African-American president.

Here the idiocy of these attacks is brightly illuminated through satire at the hands of Stephen Colbert:
