Republicans Feel "Optimistic" About 2012 - Possible Candidates Named

Politico reports that President Obama's falling approval ratings are fueling a boom in optimism and potential candidates among Republican party members:

 

Some major donors and GOP strategists have approached Joe Scarborough, the host of MSNBC’s "Morning Joe,” about a national run, according to party sources. 

Former Senate Majority Leader Bob Dole of Kansas, the Republican nominee in 1996, told POLITICO that he would like to see Army four-star Gen. David Petraeus — the head of the U.S. Central Command, which includes Iraq and Afghanistan — run for president as a latter-day Ike.

Palin Still Explaining Why She Quit

Governor Sarah Palin explains her decision to quit the governorship of her state in this CNN interview.  She positions her decision to quit as "what's best for Alaska".

Palin calls the treatment she has received (doesn't say from whom with any specificity) as a "political blood sport" and implies that she is a victim of frivolous ethics charges.

She also denies that she is a "quitter" or "retreating" but, rather, advancing her agenda in an "unconventional way".  When asked if she will be running for president she said that "all options are on the table".
