Palin Not Qualified to Be Vice President, McCain Staffers Thought

It turns out that her Katie Couric interview was just the tip of the ignorance iceberg.

Sarah Palin, according to the new book  "Game Change", had to take basic history lessons as part of her campaign prep. 

Things like World War I, World War II, and why Korea is now two countries - and other pearls of basic knowledge held by the average 6th grader - had to be programmed into the new candidate before she could speak to the press.

Why could she not answer what newspapers of magazines she read?  It would seem because she was being truthful.  In other words, she does not read a  of lot.

In fact, many McCain staffers were secretly terrified that this highly unqualified person would be a heart beat from the Presidency:

Palin Not Ready for Latino Primetime

Apparently Katie Couric was not the only media chanllenge for Sarah Palin.

According to the seemingly endless barrage of critiques leveled at Sarach Palin by McCain campaign staffers, the Alaska governor had to cancel an interview with Jorge Ramos of Univision because she did not know much about Latinos or Latin America.

Politico reports:

A top adviser on Hispanic issues to John McCain’s presidential campaign said Sunday that a joint interview with McCain and Sarah Palin planned for Univision last fall had to be canceled because Palin was unprepared to discuss Latin America policy.

“She did not feel comfortable speaking about issues regarding Hispanics and Latin America,” GOP consultant Ana Navarro told Univision anchor Jorge Ramos in an interview. “Those are not topics that come up frequently in Alaska. So she asked to cancel the interview and, unfortunately, you were already there.

With both McCain and Barack Obama aggressively courting the Hispanic vote, each sat for multiple interviews with Ramos, whose evening news broadcast on the Spanish-language channel draws millions of viewers.

Both presidential candidates also agreed to a joint sit-down with their running mate. But on Oct. 9, the day that McCain and Palin were to face Ramos together outside of Milwaukee, only the Republican presidential candidate sat for the interview.

A campaign source familiar with the events leading up to the interview described it as a near-crisis situation, with McCain officials worried that Ramos would say on the air that Palin wasn’t appearing because she was not capable of discussing Hispanic issues — a charge disputed by one current Palin aide.

Palin vs. the Associated Press: Her New Book is Making Waves

It's not yet on the shelves, but Sarah Palin's new book is triggering critiques from all sides.

Senior operatives of the McCain campaign have lashed out for supposed misstatements.

And Palin has also taken issue with the Associated press, the organization chosen by Palin's publisher to receive an advance copy of her book.

According to the AP:

Ignoring substantial parts of her record if not the facts, she depicts herself as a frugal traveler on the taxpayer's dime, a reformer without ties to powerful interests and a politician roguishly indifferent to high ambition.

Palin goes adrift, at times, on more contemporary issues, too. She criticizes President Barack Obama for pushing through a bailout package that actually was achieved by his Republican predecessor George W. Bush -- a package she seemed to support at the time.


But Palin claims the AP got it wrong.  Politico reports:

POLITICO has learned that Palin, in a statement that will be posted on her Facebook page Friday, writes that “as you probably have heard, the AP snagged a copy of my memoir, 'Going Rogue,' before its Tuesday release. And as is expected, the AP and a number of subsequent media outlets are erroneously reporting the contents of the book.”

Palin asks supporters to withhold their reactions until they have had a chance to read the book.

“Keep your powder dry, read the book, and enjoy it! Lots of great stories about my family, Alaska and the incredible honor it was to run alongside Sen. John McCain,” she wrote. “We can't wait to hit the road and meet so many on the book tour! See you in Michigan first.”
