Iran Provokes World by Firing Missile

In another provocative act, Iran test fired a newly capable missile that could hit Israel and even parts of Europe.
The United States and the United Kingdom condemned the act - and once again threatened sanctions.
Israel, which in the past has intimated military action to stop Iran from threatening its own existence, has been low key.
While this act once again demonstrates the Islamic Republic's recklessness - it is also a sign of the extreme weakness of the clerical-police state that has emerged in the aftermath of a stolen election which also robed the legitimacy of the ruling class.
It would seem that the Khāmene’i regime is trying to fire up base nationalist feelings through these displays of supposed state power as a counter reaction to the popular discontent with his increasingly shaky regime.
From the Washington Post:
The test of the medium-range Sajjil-2 fueled calls for tougher sanctions against Tehran, which has resisted U.N. demands that it rein in its nuclear ambitions. Iran touted the launch as a success proving it can deter any U.S. or Israeli military strike against its nuclear facilities.
"This is a matter of serious concern to the international community and it does make the case for us moving further on sanctions. We will treat this with the seriousness it deserves," British Prime Minister Gordon Brown said after talks with U.N. chief Ban Ki-Moon in Copenhagen.
